PostSubject: Suggestion regarding length of time an old post is kept around   Suggestion regarding length of time an old post is kept around EmptyFri Jan 06, 2012 5:30 pm

I've noticed that threads in the girls section are archived after just a few weeks of inactivity while threads in the General Discussion section are left around to be posted in again for years (literally). The oldest thread in GD was last posted in in March of 2010. That'll be two years in just a couple months.

In comparison, the archive time for the girl's section is less than two months. I was wondering if that could be changed to be a little bit longer? Maybe six months or a year? Some threads, such as the babies thread, are the type of threads that can go weeks or months without someone posting and then suddenly, someone will get a new little niece or nephew and it will go crazy again. It's kind of annoying to make a new thread or have to ask one of the mods to get it out of the archive every time that happens.

Anyway, I hope that doesn't sound annoying or come across wrong. Just a suggestion to improve the forums. I noticed it especially with my Update thread.

Smile

I'd second this motion. Because we don't have such a volume of posts that you can't find things, I would lobby for leaving threads up for longer. They don't seem to hurt anything sitting there, and then we can go back and look through them, and comment at will. Smile

Ok, if I've pressed the right buttons, I think I've changed the settings. Smile Topics were being cleared out after a month of inactivity and I'm happy to agree that was a short amount of time, so I've re-set it to be cleared after a year of inactivity.

Thanks, ER.

Also, remember that a thread can easily be made into a sticky if you ask. Might be a good idea to do that for threads such as the babies one. Very Happy

I would second that. Babies would be a good sticky thread, seeing as it might be more than a year before someone has one again.
