PostSubject: Possible job   Fri Sep 18, 2009 12:43 pm

This is kind of a parallel to Sarah's recent prayer request!

Some of you may know I am very close to handing in my PhD and, as my applications prayer request thread says, I have around a year to fill before I am able to get an academic posting (if I do... Puzzled). I've been flicking through job pages and I've found one that has caught my eye to tide me over for the next year (medical secretary). It sounds ideal in what it comprises and I have pretty much all the requirements that are needed. So please pray that if it is right then I will get it! If it's not the place that God wants me, then time is on my side; I know that there will be something else and I have time to keep looking at the moment. But yeah, it does sound good and please do pray that they will like me enough to oversee the teeny weeny fact that I only want this for a year! Razz

Thank you so much.

Hi, I've applied for a small handful of jobs over the last week or so and haven't heard anything back yet. I know it's early days, so I don't need to panic yet, but I'm getting the feeling that I'm not being exactly snapped up! I'm going for an interview to join an agency tomorrow - I'm not too worried about actually being taken on by them, but if you could pray that they find me something very very soon, I would be so grateful. Money's starting to get a bit tight, so I really need a job by the end of the month. Sad Oh, and I need a good dose of faith too!

Somewhere in here you said something about not many people necessarily wanting to hire you for such a short time...so...don't tell them that you're leaving. When you agree to work for a company, there's some minimum commitment expected - like 2-3 months - but you're not signing your life away. The fact that you hope to find a teaching position after a year...well...they don't need to know that. Honestly, you don't know what you'll be doing in a year, so no need to miss a good job just because you'd like to be elsewhere by then.

That's not a bad point Elisabeth.
Thomas, you really don't know where you'll be in a year. You may still be working wherever you get a job now. When I applied for my job at Fresh Market, my family was almost 100% certain that we'd be moving out of state in about 3 months, but I needed a job until then and in case that didn't happen. I didn't tell them that and they hired me. I wound up not moving for over a year and had a WONDERFUL job that I actually loved that entire time and may not have gotten if I said I would only be there for about 2-3 months...

This is ER's job thread, not mine. Razz The same is true though for everybody though, even those with jobs. We don't know where we'll be in a year. For all we know, Jesus may return in the next year. We're not promised another breath, never mind another year.

Haha, no worry! Razz Update - I joined an agency yesterday. They obviously ask straightaway what your long-term plans are, and they were pretty direct about it, given that I have a PhD on my CV! However, they said that 10 months to a year is actually long-term in agency terms, so at least that worry has been removed. Smile

I'm really hoping that they get me at least some interviews for next week. They thought they had one they could get me lined up for right away, but that fell through....I'm hoping that's because God has a better post for me somewhere!

Can I ask for prayer please? I have an interview on Thurs for a job I really want to get. Puzzled I've had a little bit of temping work, but there isn't much around and this will be a permanent job so I'll have a steady source of money coming in.

There is a little story connected with it... This is actually the job that this whole thread started up about. The application said that if you didn't hear within three weeks, then you were to assume that you were unsuccessful. The three weeks were almost exactly up and I had completely given up hope, when my PhD supervisor emailed me to wish me luck on my interview. I did this: Shocked What interview? It turned out he had had to give a reference and so knew my interview date before I did! Anyway, the fact that I got this interview when I really thought that I had missed the short-list altogether makes me hope that there is some divine plan working this out for me...so I would really appreciate prayers that I get this if it's where I'm meant to be for this year. Smile
