ENGAGED!! (updated) | My sister is courting a guy! :-D

OK...so...my sister, around the age of 14 or so, first started showing signs of a disease that took about 6 years to diagnose. One of the ramifications of this disease is that it honestly made her kinda annoying to be around...so, that pretty much squelched her ability to attract guys' attention. I mean, she's a pretty girl, and she's got lots and lots of good traits...but this disease just made her get annoyed really easily, have a hard time exerting the energy to, like, hang out with a group and have fun... She wasn't lazy, but, by the evening, she was just worn out. Anywho, so, she graduated college, with her dream being to marry soon...but...that didn't happen...a year later she had surgery to correct this medical problem...and the recovery process began. Just about when she was getting well enough to enjoy spending time with people and have them enjoy spending time with her...our family moved to a town with, literally, one young single Christian man - and he's a bum with no direction in life.

For a year and a half, she worked down there, trying to figure out what God's plan was in having them there. She talked to Mom and Dad about the possibility of joining an online meeting/dating site, but, she wasn't sure if that was just trying to get ahead of God... Mom talked to me about the possibility of starting such a site specifically for conservative people, but, well, that never happened. Razz

Three months ago or so, my dad created an account on Christian Mingle for my sister, filled out her profile, everything...and then handed it over to her. Razz

She started having guys contact her - some whose profile pictures showed 'em drinking beer, some who looked very unkempt (and my sister is a very tidy person)...and then one who was actually something of a possibility. She started talking to that young guy, and then had others write to her, too. Eventually, she had two possible young men she was talking to. They both asked to meet her, and she arranged meetings with both.

She met Jay first. Since my brother and sister-in-law live in the same town as Jay, the family came up for a weekend, and my sis and Jay went out (her first date ever!) Saturday evening (after Jay and my sis talked to my parents for like 45 minutes...lol). He dropped her off that evening and asked her to go to church with him the next day...and...well...she didn't get back from church till about 8 pm. Razz

then she had to go back down to home, to have Pete come the next weekend. Every night, though, Jay was calling to talk to her. Smile

He politely didn't call when Pete was there, but called every night before and after his visit...and asked if he could visit for July 4th weekend.

Thursday Jay arrived at the family's house to get my sister, and he brought with him a huge bouquet of roses...they were beautiful. Smile

Friday my dad sent me a text message and told me to keep November open for a wedding - not that anyone had said anything, but he was just guessing. Laughing

Yesterday afternoon, "in the perfect beauty of a Kentucky forest", Jay asked my sister if he could court her...or as she said over IM today, "if he could win my heart". Very Happy

This isn't just a casual relationship by any means. She and I were talking on IM today, and she said that he was OK with waiting to have kids until her back could handle it (ramifications of the disease mentioned at the beginning)...so, apparently they've spoken about some rather serious matters. Razz

This I know - her e-mail telling me and her brother that they're courting came at about 1:15 and said he'd just left half an hour before...and this is my sister who goes to bed at 10 most nights, and rarely stays up for anything. Must be special times. Smile

hehe.

Now a cool side-light part of this story, I think, is that Jay is 33 (my sis is 23) and has his life firmly established. He has been a member of this meeting site for years - he bought the "lifetime membership". Razz

But...he just checks it for a time, then forgets about it, then comes back to it. It'd been a long time since he'd been on the site, and then he "happened" to return just when my sister joined. What timing - it sure would seem like God at work!

Well...yeah...I thought about posting it there...but...I wasn't sure it was developed enough to count...I mean, they are "just" courting...they could still decide this wasn't God's plan. I doubt it - I mean, like I said, Dad told me to keep my November schedule clear. Razz
