"Rejoice in the LORD always. I will say it again: rejoice!" - Philippians 4:4

I knew this verse from a song I sung in Children's Church growing up, and it's never left me. The obvious question to ask from this verse is "when do we rejoice?"

The answer is just as obvious - "always". Even when we are unemployed, in the midst of a move, struggling with relationship issues, facing exams, or are just finding it tough, we are to rejoice. If life is going swimmingly, ...

Something my friend wrote...good to take some time and think about:

Why is it that we are trying so hard to grow up, when God asked us to be like children?

For it is when we look at life through the eyes of children that we realize that we can actually do all the things God asks us to do.

A child doesn’t look at something and think about what bad things can come from that experience.

The child just jumps in and does it.

Why do we have to focus on the negatives?

Ok story ...

Calling

I figured out last week what it is that I am called to do with my life. Now, I would tell you what it is, except there is one other thing I have to say first. This calling is not just for me. It's for every one of us. So get excited... I'm about to give you the answer to the tricky question of what you should do with your life. Ready?

Here it is. What you should do with your life:

Imitate Christ.

and

Live in the Spirit

That's it. It's as simple as that. ...

Just a quick thought for today:

I was reading through Proverbs 9, when I saw something I'd not seen before. Verse 6 says "Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding." What stood out to me was the contrast of plural and singular. We are commanded to leave our simple ways (plural), and instead, to walk in the way (singular) of understanding. There is only one way to understanding.

So what is the way? Well, prepare to be a good Sunday School ...

Ok I'm really sorry I didn't do mine last week... I clean forgot about it. I remembered today though - thanks Katy!!

So. Today I'm gonna ramble on about death. I get really bad dreams sometimes and wake up horrified by death. Now I don't believe a Christian should be scared of death at all. So why do I freak out? Well I'm sure Archie has something to do with it. No mother wants to think about their child dying. Or getting ...

I heard this on the radio this morning, and I thought I'd share it.

Jesus was tempted in all the ways we are, yet was without sin. (Hebrews 4:14-15 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin)

I'm in the Lord's Army

On April 25, I saw an ANZAC Day parade. (For those who don't know, ANZAC day is the day we remember the Australian and New Zealander people who have served in our defence forces. There's always a parade through the city, with descendants of the veterans marching, as well as any veterans who are still alive or those currently serving.)

The march got me thinking. I like watching the military.

Proverbs 30:5

Every word of God proves true.

He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.

Hold on,

Which word?

Every word.

Not one, not some, but EVERY word.

That includes the ones that seem impossible, the ones you think aren't true, and event eh ones you've forgotten!

So just have a think for a moment on the promises and words God has spoken to You.

They are true.

They

are

true.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;

do not depend on your own understanding.

Seek his will in all you do,

and he will show you which path to take.

When thinking about this passage, I've always had the image in my mind of about four paths in a dark forest (don't ask me why!), and one path would be lit up with a spotlight to show that it is the correct one.

But maybe it's not always like that. There are times when all four paths are lit up and ...

Are you a Martha or a Mary?

This is possibly one of the busiest times of the year. Shopping, work, holidays, family trips, presents, food... the list goes on. The world throws distractions at us - Santa, consumerism, materialism, busyness. It gets so easy to get caught up in the craziness that Christmas time brings to the world. Sure, it's great to spend time with family, to serve others, to fellowship and sing the beautiful carols. But what does Jesus have to say about it all?

This is a written version of what I spoke about at church on Sunday:

How does God see us?

For a recent assignment at college, we were placed into groups of 4, and had to create a short film. In our group’s film, I played one of the main characters, and did a lot of the editing for it. When I watch the film, my first thought is always “wow! Look at what we created… it actually works!”, and it’s really exciting. I can overlook the problems we had creating an idea and editing ...
