| Yeah I'm not happy about that for several reasons. I will keep them to myself till this post evolves. |

| I don't think he deserved it either but like vigilance (sorry, I don't remember, it's either David or Peter, right?), I will remain silent about my reasons for a w hile. _________________ Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new - Albert Einstein |

It's Peter but I'm used to going by my last name, even at home so vigilance will work fine |

| Yeah...he got it for so-called "good" intentions...first time ever that it's not been for something that's been done. Grrrr. I'm with Peter and Julie, too. Totally not pleased. It's a political thing... There was a time when the Nobel Peace Prize really meant a lot. Now, we're giving it to guys who haven't done anything. Nominations for this prize were made back in February...at that time, Obama had mere weeks in office...definitely hadn't done anything worth this prize. _________________ ...they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. | I'm not happy about this either! And I agree, the Nobel Peace Prize is loosing it's meaning if stuff like this can happen!! _________________ “The contentment of a Christian Hedonist is not a Buddha-like serenity, unmoved by the hurts of others. | Hmm, I don't think he has been in office long enough to deserve it, although I have high hopes that he will do well over his term. Just out of curiosity, are all your comments because a) you think he hasn't had a chance to prove himself and hence earn it yet or b) you don't agree with him as a leader at all? |

| I would venture a guess and say b?? I was surprised when I found out, as he got into office only 2 weeks before the nomination deadline. And laughed to myself that he won it on a day when he met with military leaders to discuss upping the war in Afghanistan! I agree with you ER, I think he has a good chance to work for peace/diplomacy in his term. _________________ *Larissa*

If he does some noble deed deserving of the prize, then give it to him then. This is just ridiculous...there are millions of people with good intentions, but what makes the Wilberforces stand out from the wannabes is that they actually do something. So far, Obama is good intentions. When he's done something, then award him for what he's done...but good intentions aren't worth the paper it takes to write 'em out.
At the same time, though, I do not pretend to be a supporter of Barack Obama. I am a supporter of the United States and therefore of our President...and as he is the occupant of the position of President, I will respect him in that capacity, because I respect the office. However, I did not vote for him, I will not vote for him, and I do not support him. I disagree with his policy on most issues. If he were not in the office of president, I would have no respect for him whatsoever; as it is, I think the sooner he is out of that office, the better of our country will be. The best thing he can do for our country is mess things up so much that those who have just tuned out all politics will finally wake up and realize that they need to vote if their country is going to remain intact.
*wonders if she stated things too strongly up there...but due to a headache, doesn't feel like going back and changing it all to be diplomatic* _________________ ...they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Acts 17:11

| Compared to the rest of those on here, I'm probably one of the more liberal members of the forum, and I'm not happy to see him get the award. It makes a sham out of the whole Nobel Peace Prize. He hasn't done anything yet to deserve the award, and definitely hadn't done anything by the nomination deadline. Don't worry, Elisabeth, you didn't overstate things. I have certain politicians that I will never vote for either, Obama being one. Another being the truant governor of my state, who just happens to be campaigning for the Republican nomination in 2012 already (and is one of the leading candidates for said nomination). Nice little quandary I could find myself in that year, isn't it? |
