| It wasn't a debate when it started ages ago, but since it was brought back into discussion, it quickly became one. Hence Brittany moved it into this section, and now the rules should be followed. The rules are to protect people from being hurt by what is said (we had some problems in the past, which is why the rules were set up). _________________ *Larissa*

| Isn't saying that baptism is necessary for salvation adding one of our own works to that of Jesus? Isn't that saying that His work needs an act of ours to be complete? |

NO!!!!! His work is PERFECT! Look at it this way...if someone told you they had a gift for you, one they had made themselves that was perfect, but to get you had to come to them and help them with thier garden, would that be saying that thier gift wasn't perfect? No, of course not. But we are not saved by faith ONLY, but works AND faith, together!

Christ payed with his life for our sin. He took it ALL! Praise Jehovah!! But faith without works is dead, and baptism is required from the Bible. So we have this gift, payed for by Christ, but we must redeem it!_________________ I am a farmgirl with a mission... to get my chores done before it's dark... ahem! Based on YOUR interpretation. I just don't see it like that....sorry, but I don't....
| Waltzing Rapunzel wrote: | | So we have this gift, payed for by Christ, but we must redeem it! |
I'd be careful with this. Where in the Bible does it actually say "you must redeem your salvation", specifically by baptism. I've never, NEVER heard that....or read it in the Bible. Christ redeemed US. Any and every picture of salvation in the Bible shows the giver as paying everything. The reciever does nothing but accepts. "Redeem" implies having to buy. We don't have to buy a free gift.....a gift that was, by definition, something we were unable to pay for.
I would encourage staying as tight to biblical language as possible. When you use words like this in contexts that the Bible does not, it can get confusing. _________________ “The contentment of a Christian Hedonist is not a Buddha-like serenity, unmoved by the hurts of others. That's referring to after you are saved. You have faith in Christ, but if you do not show that by your works, then it's no good having faith. If you don't show in your life that you belong to Christ, if you aren't acting like Christ, then it does you no good to have faith in Him. It's dead faith. |

Rebecca, that's one of the best-worded explanations of that passage I have heard! _________________ *Larissa*

| Sooo WR, I just wanna let you know apearently I'm not saved even though I sure thought I was 11 years ago because I've yet to find a church that's not so stuck up push their opinions on everything that I actually wanna get baptized in it! | Quote: | | But faith without works is dead, |
God totally redeems us when we are saved he makes us new creations we do not have to do anything besides ask for his forgiveness...I'm not gonna rehash all that because Rebecca already did a very good good explaining that verse, But when we'll saved we'll completely forgiven and redeemed, We can't redeem ourselves... by getting baptized... baptism is a act of FAITH saying Yes I believe and I want to turn my life around its a physical step to show what you've been spiritually its not required for salvation.. Do you remember how before Jesus came? in the bible how people had to fairly often be re-baptized, and have do sacrifice.. the sacrifice was for atonement of their sins the baptism was to show their repentance and re-dedication. What your saying sounds very much like salvation by works, You might wanna be careful with that it often leads to a very I'm saved because I'm so good attitude.
We can not redeem Gods gifts to us.. he has to do that, and I'm not really thinking redeem is the right word anyways. |

| If you say that baptism is required, you're almost saying that Christ's work is enough, but is ineffective in your life until you get dunked in water. You may have accepted Him 15 years ago and you may be trying to live a godly life, but His work didn't work for you because you forgot to get baptized. It doesn't make sense. |

| Congradulations Julie su! Girls, I think I will need to agree to disagree right now... I don't want to cause divisions, and we need to be careful, because I know that is what Satan would like to happen! If anyone would like to discuss this with me, please PM me! Thank you! _________________ I am a farmgirl with a mission... to get my chores done before it's dark... ahem! You are most like Peter Pevensie, once High King of Narnia.
